What is Maslaha?

Maslaha which means, “Gig” in English is a professional online workspace which connects licensed clients/agencies with licensed talented freelancers in the UAE. Maslaha was founded in 2018.

Maslaha enables clients to post projects on the platform (for free) and then receive quotes from licensed and skilled freelancers or hunt freelancer profiles and invite the ones that interest them to send a quote. Clients can then select the best and most suitable freelancer for the project and then make payment securely using bank transfer. Clients pay the freelancer a deposit of 50% to start the project which is kept in escrow and then pay the remaining 50% upon project completion. The freelancer then receives the full payment upon project completion through their bank account.

How to create an account?

It is quiet simple and free!

You may go to sign up at the top right of the website and then choose the correct profile that suits you (freelancer or client) and create a username and password. You may also use your Linkedin profile to sign up.

What is the difference between an Expert account and a Freelancer account?

An expert account doesn’t require any legal documents to sign up, & is open to anyone from around the world. A freelancer account however is for UAE licensed freelancers only & requires a valid freelance license & either an Emirates ID or the residency visa to be uploaded at the time of sign up for verification & activation of the account.

What is the difference between a Caller and an Employer account?

A caller account doesn’t require any legal documents to sign up, & is open to anyone from around the world. While an employer account however is open for UAE companies and a trade license is required for verification at the sign up.

What is “workspace”?

It is the space Maslaha created for the freelancer and the client to communicate and share work progress.

Each project has it’s unique workspace connecting the freelancer and the client to share documents, work progress, deliver the final product and communicate using the messaging platform.

Some of the workspace’s special features is:

  • See the milestones of the project and as a client cross them off as they are done.
  • Send and receive files between the freelancer and the client.
  • Communicate through the messaging section in the workflow ( that is in addition to the general private messaging platform)
  • Open a dispute
  • Discontinue a project
  • Finish a project (request for balance payment as a freelancer)

What does Escrow mean?

It basically means that money is held by a third party (Maslaha) on behalf of the client.

My account is not working, what should I do?

 For both client and freelancer accounts, uploading the Trade License is a must in order for your account to be activated and be able to use the platform (for clients to post projects and for freelancers to send a quote to projects).

For freelancers, there are other mandatory documents required for the account to be verified and activate it which is the freelance license/permit & either the Emirates ID or a copy of the valid residency visa.

I received an account de-activation email, why? What to do?

There could be a few reasons for this email. As a freelancer, your freelance license or residency visa may have expired. Our system is programmed to send 3 reminder emails prior the expiry of any of your documents to give you the chance to upload the new ones prior their expiry to avoid account de-activation. After the expiry date if the documents haven’t been updated the account will be de-activated and you will receive the de-activation email accordingly.

For an employer account, your trade license would have expired and that would be one of the reasons you may receive this email. Our system is programmed to send 3 reminder emails prior the expiry of any of your documents to give you the chance to upload the new ones prior their expiry to avoid account de-activation. After the expiry date if the documents haven’t been updated the account will be de-activated and you will receive the de-activation email accordingly.

Other reasons for receiving this email would be because of misuse of the platform, failing to abide by the terms and conditions and policy etc.

What is my credit?

On Maslaha we work using credits, which are a representation of real money. One credit = One Dirham.

As a client:

In order to hire a freelancer for your project, you must deposit 50% of the project’s budget in our escrow in order for the project to be enabled and the freelancer to start working on it. To make this deposit, you should visit “My Credit” page from your account, and initiate a bank transfer (using your own bank’s page) to Maslaha’s account visible on the page. Once we receive your payment, we will acknowledge it through an email to you as well as showing your credit balance in the amount you have transferred. You may then proceed to hire the freelancer for your project using the credit available in your account.

You would need to repeat this bank transfer process to complete the 50% balance payment using your credit in order to receive the final project files from the freelancer.

As a freelancer:

You shall be receiving your advance payments and full project payments using credits. Once you wish to withdraw the money to have it transferred to your bank account as Dirhams, you should send a withdrawal request with the amount from the “ My Credit” page. Your bank account details must be available/updated on your account in order for Maslaha to send you your payment.

A normal withdrawal request is completed within 3 working days (the money should reflect in your bank account).

Can I be both a freelancer doing work and a client hiring on Maslaha?

Yes, you can be both a freelancer and a client on Maslaha! You’ll have to create a new client account to log in, and the two parts of your account will be kept entirely separate as each account provides separate features.

When can I start work on a project I was hired for?

You may start working once you see that the 50% advance of your project is reflected in your wallet/escrow.

What is Project Agreement?

It is the customized legal contract issued by Maslaha summarizing your project brief and allowing you and the client to add your own terms and mutually agree on them. The agreement is bound by both your signatures and is saved in your account for reference in case of a dispute.

What kind of skills can I find on Maslaha?

Almost anything in the creative field! Maslaha covers almost all the skills in the creative field that all the licensing entities in the UAE provides a freelance license for.

Can I be both a client and a freelancer?

Yes you can, but you would have to create another freelancer account with a different email or using your Linkedin account.

What is Project Agreement?

Who is a caller?

A caller is anyone that:

  • is looking for technical assistance
  • is looking for a consult (about anything in any field)
  • has an inquiry about something (in any field)
  • is looking for a second opinion
  • is anything along the lines of the above

What are the requirements to create a caller account?

For a caller account, we have no requirements. It is a free sign up & can be from anywhere in the world.

How is a caller charged for a call “Talking with an expert”?

At the time of making a call request to a certain expert, you will need to indicate an approximate time duration for the call. Based on that duration and the rate of the expert you will be presented with a quote to process prior to the call in order to reveal the expert’s phone number & enable other telecommunication apps (Skype, Google Hangouts, Team Viewer & Zoom).

Once you process payment to us (Maslaha’s bank account) we will enable the above mentioned apps and reveal the expert’s phone number to start the call.

What happens if a caller went over the requested minutes of the call?

Should you exceed the number of minutes at the time of the request, the expert will initiate an invoice at the end of the call and send it to you on the platform to process the payment.

Failing to pay the invoice will result in restricting your account and disabling it from making any other actions until the invoice settlement.

Do i earn Maslahty Loyalty points as a caller?

Yes as a caller you earn Maslahty points for some actions you do on the platform such as signing up, rating the expert at the end of the call and sharing your experience on social media.

Who is an Expert?

An expert is anyone that has experience in a certain field for a certain amount of years and can provide relevant documents to support that such as CV, Educational Certificates (to be uploaded in the profile section).

What are the requirements to create an expert account?

For an expert account, we have no requirements. It is a free sign up & can be from anywhere in the world. However, upon sign up the expert is required to complete his/her profile & upload CV & any certificates or documents that can support his expertise. This will help him/her receive calls.

How is an expert paid?

You are required to put your rate per minute (minimum call is 15 minutes) in your profile. Upon receiving a call request, the caller will be charged based on the required duration they requested x your rate. They will then pay Maslaha the full amount (including our fees) and we will reflect that in your credit page and notify you on the platform and by email that the amount has been paid so you may make the call.

Once the call has been completed, you shall initiate a withdrawal request from your credit page and we will transfer to you your fees within 3 working days (UAE time).

What happens if a caller went over the requested minutes of the call?

Should a caller exceed the number of minutes at the time of the request, the expert should notify the caller on the call and ask him/her if they are ok to extend the call and be charged for the additional minutes. Should the caller accept, the expert should initiate an invoice at the end of the call and send it to the expert on the platform to process the payment [refer to the How to – Video Tutorials page].

Once the caller process the payment to Maslaha’s account, we will transfer to you your fees within 3 working days (UAE time) this additional amount will not reflect as credit first in your My credit page .

Should the caller fail to pay the invoice it will result in his account’s restriction and disabling it from making any other actions until the invoice settlement. So we encourage the expert to be firm with the time durations of the calls and be clear with communications about additional minutes.

Do i earn Maslahty Loyalty points as an expert?

Yes as an expert you earn Maslahty points for some actions you do on the platform such as signing up, receiving a rating.
